Lebanon - January 14th

My father was born and raised in Beirut.  Lebanon is a part of me, and is a place that in equal parts fascinates and angers me. It's a forward-thinking country where life is celebated to the max.  It's also backwards in so many ways.


Marital rape is not considered a crime in Lebanon. Politician Imad Hout recently stated, "There's nothing called rape between a husband and wife."

Next Saturday, January 14th, at 12pm in Beirut, a women's organization called Nasawiya is holding a protest against this law.  It takes place outside of the Ministry of Interior in the neighbourhood of Sanayeh.
